Going About Our Father's Business

Going About Our Father’s Business
Luke 16:10
He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Yet, the judges did not choose her model as the winner.
As we serve the Lord in church, our communities and home, our experiences can sometimes seem very similar to this. We go over and beyond, sacrificing quietly in the background, sometimes unseen and unheard by others. Our best work may not be appreciated by leaders and even invite sarcasm and scorn from those we love, leaving us hurt and disappointed. Doubts about our abilities can discourage us and some may stop serving in the Kingdom altogether.
Consider what you are doing for the Lord today. Do you feel it’s insignificant? Are you comparing your ‘model’ to others and not seeing results like theirs? Are there fleeting emotions of envy or resentment when you hear people compliment someone else’s work?
It’s good sometimes to stand back and ponder the points below, so we can continue building our ‘model’ with joy and peace, finding our divinely assigned place as a worker in God’s Kingdom.
- Don’t lose your focus.
-
- If the Lord has given you a mandate, stick to the plan and keep the main thing the main thing. Don’t allow shiny objects in life to take you on detours.
- We work only to please the Lord.
-
- The moment we look around for approval from others, disappointment and discouragement is inevitable. Ask for counsel and advice from leaders if needed, but remember your validation is from the Lord.
- Don’t compare your work, and the fruits of your labor, to others working in the same field.
-
- Envy and resentment breed when we keep looking sideways at others building beside us and covet their results. Our story, gifts and tools are different to theirs, so look ahead to the finish line.
- Jesus only asked us to obey His command. Not to produce the results. That is His role.
-
- Your task is to obey the call. His task is to follow your work with signs and wonders.
Even though Alexa’s project did not score enough points to be placed 1st at school, her family gave her “The Winner” title, even before she completed her project. Why? Because they saw her meticulous attention to detail and her desire to do her best. Their tender love for her buried any imperfections.
Hear what the Lord is saying to you today.
Colossians 3:23 & 24
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
When I asked Alexa if she was disappointed and upset that she didn’t win, her sincere reply was “No, I was happy to be a runner up”, and that same night she prayed with her grandma, “even though I didn’t win, take care of my friends so they will always do their best”. Let the sincerity of our hearts be like hers, as we all work together to glorify our King.
He has chosen you to do what you are doing. Hone your craft, do it well with the right heart attitude. You are already a winner in your Father’s eyes.
