Surrey Outreach
On January 18th, we went out on the streets of Whalley, in Surrey, to do street ministry. It was a cold and damp day, overcast and gloomy. You would think that no one would be sitting outside on such a day but we know from 2020 and 2021, when we did street ministry, that rain, sunshine or snow, there are people on the streets who are homeless.
We had 25 hot dinners, coffee and treats plus care packs of warm accessories including scarfs, socks and toques to give together with the Daily Bread and Gospel of John.
As we were talking with people and handing out the Care Packs that we brought with us one person said “thank you for coming out in this weather to do this”. Almost everyone we gave the dinner to, started eating right away. The coffee was also very welcomed as it was so cold that day.
We met Alexandra again. (I mentioned her in the December 2021 Newsletter). She recognised us and smiled, thankful for the food and care pack. This time we were able to chat for a while.
There are also people living in their cars as they have lost their homes. One very elderly gentleman was seated in his car, wearing a hat. When I saw him, he reminded me of my grandpa who used to wear a similar hat. He was thankful for the dinner and care pack. We know now, where they park and were able to help them too.
As we were out on the streets we sensed tangibly, God’s presence, His blessing and power. These words dropped into my spirit “this is the gift of mercy in operation”. Food is a basic necessity which unfortunately some do not have easy access to.
Romans 12: 4 – 8
For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
When we were done and got back in the car to head home it felt like heaven filled the car, and we knew the Lord was pleased. Even though the day had been cold, wet and gloomy, it did not matter as it felt like the Son was shining everywhere around us and in us through the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
The photograph below is of Neil who said it’s ok to take his picture after making sure he looked good and posing for it :).
As always, this is a teamwork.

I Will………
Matthew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.
Let’s read the above Scripture with the emphasis on the word “DOES” this time.
Too often we are content to just know the will of God, hear the will of God, understand the will of God, and then we stop short. This is because doing the will of God takes effort. It calls us out of our comfort zone into an arena of faith and works. Doing involves intentionally being willing to make sacrifices, being disciplined and staying focussed.
All of us have, at some point, sat in the spectator’s seat, giving the thumbs up or thumbs down sign from the safety of the majority while watching a few laborers in the field.
The danger is that the spectator’s seat is very comfortable and becomes all too familiar as the years go by, and procrastination in the things of the kingdom, becomes the norm.
How many of us can identify ourselves with the second son in the parable below?
Matthew 21:28 – 31
28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”
They said to Him, “The first.”
Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
It is a sobering thought to ponder upon, yet crucial as we begin another year so that we will not find ourselves looking back and seeing unfinished projects and intentions.
The smallest deed is bigger than the greatest intention. Let’s be diligent, consistent, and disciplined this year and cultivate good habits in reaching our goals with a spirit of Excellence for His glory.
In His Service,
