Surrey Street Ministry
Sunday, August 15th was a hot and humid day. BC was experiencing the 2nd heatwave. When we went out on the streets in July people living on the streets were thankful for the bottled water more than the food we gave them as the weather was so hot. We had taken only one case in July, not realising that there were so many people out on the streets so this time, we took 2 cases of water, 2 cases of pop, oranges and 50 dinner wraps.
People who have lost their homes and employment are living on the streets and in their vehicles.
James 2: 14 – 16
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
As we share and talk with people during street ministry we notice time and again the sense of community that is prevalent amongst them and the fact that they look out for each other. One of the deterrents for them to take a step to get help and come off the streets is fear of being alone, fear of not having friends and fear of losing community.
I talked with one of my mentors recently and asked him about the question of follow up & discipling because sometimes we do not see the same people every month and sometimes we do. His response was “continue to do what you are doing now, give them food, water, and other necessary items, continue to pray for them and show God’s love by being on the streets and talking with them”.
We will continue in the strength of our Lord, sharing what we have, and sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Pictures from our August outreach are below. I asked the man holding the Gospel of John and the dinner wrap we gave him, if I could take his picture and he said yes. They were very thankful for the bottled water. We take so much for granted. Let us live our lives with thankful hearts.

Waiting on the Lord or waiting for the Lord!
Let’s look at the difference between these two statements.
Waiting on the Lord means to serve Him, obey, and be laborers in His Kingdom. When you wait on someone, your goal and purpose are to be available and ready to accomplish the request of the one being waited on. The act of obedience is out of a willing and joyful heart.
When Peter’s mother-in-law was healed, she immediately got up and waited on (served) Him.
Matthew 8:14-15
14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
There are also seasons to wait for the Lord, and it is this state of waiting that becomes a stumbling block to many believers. They wait for so long that days, months, and years go by with seemingly no end in sight.
Whatever they are waiting for, becomes the focus and goal in life, and they are content to drop anchor and wait. The end result is like the servant that hid his talent, waiting for the master’s return. Nothing was done, nothing was achieved.
This is exactly where the enemy wants you to be, in a state of limbo, stagnant, and believing that you are being obedient, in just…waiting.
Ask yourself, are you living a complacent life? Have you waited so long for something, that it has taken center stage? Begin to wait on the Lord. You will see how quickly things will swing in your favor. Your priorities will rearrange themselves and you will experience peace and contentment that surpasses all understanding.
Take your eyes away from the things that put your life on hold.
Our walk with God is meant to be active, in faith, jubilant, joyful, and filled with adventure. Don’t settle for anything less.
